Why cholesterol increases?

Reasons of increasing Cholesterol:

Elevated cholesterol levels are called high cholesterol or hypercholesterolemia . Cholesterol rises when LDL levels rise. Causes of high cholesterol or high cholesterol

  • Obesity
  • Eating fatty red meat
  • Full fat dairy products
  • Consumption of saturated fats, trans fats and processed foods
  • Large waist circumference (over 40 inches for males or over 35 inches for females)
  • Do not exercise regularly
  • Smoking (Non-smokers have higher HDL cholesterol levels than non-smokers)
  • Stress (Stress can increase LDL levels)
  • Eating extra fatty foods

In some cases, heredity may also be due to hereditary high cholesterol. This condition  is called familial hypercholesterolemia (FH)  . FH is caused by a genetic mutation. It has high LDL levels and increases the risk of heart attack and stroke at a young age.



Problems that occur when cholesterol rises:

  • Heart disease
  • Chest pain
  • Angina
  • High blood pressure
  • Stroke
  • Heart attack
  • Kidney problems
